Since its inception in 2012, Kizer Cutlery has played a pivotal role in shifting the world’s view on Chinese-made knives through the production of high-end blades that are crafted from quality materials and sold at a fair price. And while Kizer already boasts an expansive catalog, the company has now unveiled what’s undoubtedly one of its most ambitious designs to date with an everyday carry-focused folder that appears to take aim squarely at one of the most lauded EDC knives in history, the Benchmade Bugout.

Designed by Azo Mai and dubbed the “Drop Bear,” Kizer’s latest folder takes its name from the mythical (and extremely aggressive) Australian marsupial. The knife is constructed around a minimalistic yet ergonomic aluminum handle that’s equipped with Kizer’s first-ever take on an AXIS-style locking mechanism. Known as a “Clutch Lock,” this mechanism consists of a crossbar locking setup and features an adjustable Gemini Spring system as well as a “D-shape easy disassembling system.”

Paired with a reversible, tip-up deep carry pocket clip made from stamped steel, the Drop Bear’s handle was also intentionally designed to be as simple and easy to take apart as possible, with the pair of scales being separated from the liners of the locking mechanism. Mated to the 4.17” handle is a 2.97” (0.11″-thick) drop point blade that’s deployed via a thumb stud and composed of 154CM blade steel. Tipping the scales at only 3.68oz, the Drop Bear is initially being produced in two color options; a blacked-out version with a purple-anodized thumb-stud; and a gray-handled variant with a matching gray lock bar, thumb stud, and hardware, plus a bare, satin-finish blade.

The Kizer Drop Bear everyday carry knife will be available for order in the coming weeks on the brand’s online store, with an MSRP of $158 and an initial offer price set at $119.
